Rules and Laws Affecting TPAs
Depending on your branch of government and responsibilities, you will probably be familiar with a portion of the government interaction with employee benefits, self-funding/ERISA and TPAs. In total, there are hundreds of agencies and offices we interact with to some degree, so it is important to understand which laws and agencies apply (and which have limited or no role) to what you want to know. The “Everything You Wanted to Know About TPAs But Were Afraid to Ask" article in this section will help put the TPA role in perspective. Other articles on some of the major laws and responsibilities under Key Issues (e.g. ERISA) will be helpful. The SPBA office is often used as a brainstorming resource by government offices (we are non-partisan and non-political, but very candid), so you may call for more information or insight.
