Educational SPBA-Hosted Meeting Provides Updates on Health Benefit Regulations & Perspective from Policymakers
The Society of Professional Benefit Administrators (SPBA) hosts its annual regulatory-focused Spring Meeting in Washington, D.C. . Attendees will learn the latest about requirements affecting self-funded plans and had the chance to interact with some of the government officials who initiate and implement them.
(CHEVY CHASE, MD) – Hosting its annual Spring Meeting in Washington, D.C. from April 18th - April 19th, 2024, the Society of Professional Benefit Administrators (SPBA) will organize two days’ worth of educational sessions that focus on timely regulatory issues and developments that affect self-funded health plans.
Industry experts, government officials and policymakers will be on hand to share in discussion with third party administrators (TPAs) and other SPBA members about topics that influence employee benefits. This Meeting will kick off with a conversation on the TPA industry and how the industry makes a difference in the lives of plan participants. State laws that need watching along with DOL Enforcement, and various litigation issues will be discussed.
“A big plus with SPBA’s Spring Meetings has always been that we welcome government officials to attend and be part of the exchange of ideas,” said Anne Lennan, SPBA president. “It’s extremely beneficial for TPAs to hear directly from the policymakers and have an active voice in shaping legislation.”
SPBA is the national association of Third Party Administration (TPA) firms that manage client employee benefit plans. It is estimated that over 75% of U.S. workers and their dependents in non-federal health coverage are in plans administered by TPAs. Our Fall conferences focus on the operational side of running an efficient TPA firm and the new options and markets to offer clients. The candid exchange among TPA peers has proven to be an unbeatable way to gather insights from experienced peers. Topics have included: benchmarking, tracking profitability/costs per client, sales/growth strategies, TPA contract language and cyber security. Members are surveyed throughout the year and provide input on the top issues they want to see covered. The SPBA uses this feedback to shape the fall conference schedule and provide as much take-home value as possible.
